Objects and artifacts thast are 3 dimensional require special techniques. Frames need to be deep enough to accommodate the height of the object, and the glass needs to be held above so it doesn't sit on the items.Canvases
Whether it's an original painting, or a printed image, canvases need to be stretched over a special frame, and stapled on the back to hold in place. They can then be hung on the wall as is. However, some paintings look better with an added frame around the canvas. Glass is not usually necessary, but can be included if required. A Floating Frame is designed especially for canvases. It surrounds the stretched canvas, without covering over the edges, and gives an appearance of the canvas "floating" within space.Photos and Prints
Most photographs and prints are mounted directly onto a foamcore backing, and then a single or double matboard is added to enhance the look, and to hold the glass off the surface of the photo.Valuable or limited editions are not stuck down. They are hinged using conservation-grade materials which can be removed, leaving the artwork returned to its original state. UV protective glass is recommended in these cases.
Art
Original art is hinged in place, so that no permanent fixing is made. Needlework is stretched over an acid-free backing, and laced across the back to hold in place. You can choose from decorative acid-free mats, or conservation quality rag mats, and choose standard glass, UV protective glass, non-reflecitve glass, or acrylic.
Mats and frames are chosen to display art to its best effect. This means choosing a design that compliments, without overwhelming the art.
